Unknown VHS > panasonic DMR ES15 > you Color MPEG-2 NTSC Video, 4:3 Format, 720x480 2 Ch 48 kHz, 16bits DVD has top menu but not song chapters. Chapters are every 5min or so. Although there is no date or any other information present in the video, my best guess based on my own knowledge and the info available on the great Sam Rivers Sessionography website http://www.bb10k.com/RIVERS.disc.html#79.11.06 I would date it as follows: ¥ Sam Rivers Trio: November 14, 1979 / Loft, MŸnchen, Germany tenor sax section [27:05] drum solo [7:00] piano section [11:45] bass solo [8:05] flute-vocal section [16:15] (incomplete) TRT 00:59:36 Sam Rivers (tenor sax, flute, piano, soprano sax, voice)Dave Holland (bass, cello) Thurman Barker (drums, percussion) Absolutely stellar performances from each musician. Improvisation at it highest level. Audio Notes: Sound is consistent and does not seem to be too effected by video anomalies. Drums seem to be heard through other mics and not from the mics seen around drums. Highs in drums are lost creating difficulty in hearing ride cymbal work. Sam Rivers and Dave Holland have no such problems. Overall, the sound is a bit hot and boxy. Video Notes: THE GOD: DVD transfer from 1st-gen vhs copy made from original 3/4 inch master. THE BAD: Video has persistent, intermittent, but light "flickering" issue. Its heavier in some spots than other, however, it does not make performance unwatchable. Its not a problem for me, but those with a low tolerance for video anomalies might avoid this
