It's About That Time When I saw that this show was coming to town, I immediately went online and bought tickets. I had my pick of just about any seat in the house. I wanted to videotape the show, so I picked first row in the center of the balcony - I thought that would be perfect. The best layed plans of mice and men........ This venue has a very high barrier in front of the first row in the balcony. I realized right away after sitting down that it was going to be very hard to get a good shot. Any other row in the balcony would have been fine. But the place was sold out - and there was no way I was going to find two seats together elsewhere for my wife and I. So I did the best I could. Of course, I couldn't hold the videocam up to my eye - I could hold it up to my chest though. But I still couldn't get a good shot over the barrier unless I zoomed all the way in. See screen shots to see what I mean. The clothes they were wearing was also a bit of a problem. John wore a white shirt and stood in the middle of the stage where the light was the brightest. The others wore dark clothes and were off to the side (Kenny and Brian) or in the back (Christian) and it was hard to adjust the exposure so that John wasn't over-exposed when you increased the exposure well enough to where you could see the others. Chick was in a fairly well lit spot, so even though he had a dark shirt on, he wasn't a problem with regard to the exposure. I didn't really get the exposure dialed in right until the second part of the show. During the first part - everyone but John is a little too dark. The audio is from the cam's mic. It's not great - just OK. I believe this was the first performance with Brian Blade on drums. you could tell they were having a really good time.
