This is the complete concert that was broadcasted live on April 5th 1968. Just 24 hours after the assassination of civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr. 

Violence erupted in Boston, as it did in many American cities. Concerned about the possibility of full-scale riots, Mayor Kevin White considered canceling public events, including a James Brown concert scheduled that evening at the Boston Garden. 

But doing so, the local leaders warned, might push an already agitated community over the edge. The Mayor agreed, and Brown soothed the grieving audience with an electrifying performance in memory of Dr. King. 

The crowd becomes wild, jumping on stage surrounding the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. Police try at no avail to push the crowds off the stage but it gets worse. James Brown takes control of the whole situation and the show goes on. 

My notes: 

WGBH-TV Boston was asked very late in the day to broadcast this show due to the fear of riots. The idea was to keep everybody at home watching their TV's and off the streets. They filmed it on video and it shows. The entire performance is in B&W. The stage was not lit properly for TV so you do have some 'Black-outs' when the stage lights go off or dim. The sound is distorted on the lead microphone but the backing band sounds good. This is a mono recording. From all the copies I have ever seen of this show and from what snipits WGBH has shown, I believe this is as good as it gets. It is a historic recording of a James Brown Concert at a turbulent time in American History. I have 2 shots from the video below.
