On Fire (Rehearsal) thir13en's notes: As few as 15 years ago, I would have killed for a shot at this boot. Van Halen rocked my world back in '77, pretty much what I listened to 75% of the time. Then the Hagar years, which I suppose "5150" was a novel record, but everything else sucked in a big way after that. Let's not even mention the "other" guy, please. But long before the VH brothers relationship got creepy and Michael Anthony lost the rest of his hair, the band rocked any town they got close to. And here's a fine hometown set to prove it. They were about to embark on a tour the scale of which they'd never experienced, and it would ultimately change them forever, but here's a pretty decent sbd right before it all happened. It needed some work, and it's a bit crunchy in spots, but overall a quality listen. It got the treatment, EQ-comp-width-enhanced-maximized. The original version had the rehearsals first, then the show. I moved the rehearsals to the end. I understand the chronological reasoning behind the original, but it didn't sound right to me. The rehearsals are incomplete in a few different ways, and it was disrupting to the experience of the show. So hear the show first, then listen to the rehearsals if your so inclined...otherwise, reverse them back once you download, or whatever. "...ain't got nobody waitin' at home..." original notes: Transferred and mixed from master tape by Wooda at www.diamonddavidleeroth.com From Wooda: VH 10-15-77, Pasadena Civic. 12/20/77 Date Correction & Sound Upgrade -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here it is, I said I would set it up for a vine. All the shows that referenced the date 12/20/77 are flat out wrong. They never played there again after Oct 15th, 1977 which was their farewell concert at the civic. I have also included the rehearsal tape from the show. Some of you have heard it before, but the dates were also referenced wrong and the quality was no where near this. Notes "Wrongly dated for far too long, it's now time to set the record straight. VH never played another show at the Civic after this date, so throw away all those 12/20/77 average sounding boots, and settle into this experience, complete with rehearsals." Cover art shows the classic VH logo along with 4 color pictures of the band along with the show title in the center. Inside back cover artwork shows the handbill for the show as well as the original images that were used on the handbill. Very cool! It also has the text from the first note. The undertray artwork is a large classic VH logo with miniature versions running up the left edge so they can be visable through a clear tray. Rear artwork shows the classic VH logo, the handbill along with show information and track listing. Tracks 1-3 are instrumental tracks played during rehearsal. Tracks 4 & 5 are tracks from rehearsal with DLR on vocals. Tracks 6-16 are from the show itself.
