He is honest to the point of making some people uncomfortable, he is confrontational, he is arrogant, and he is a very very effective performance artist. D-Settlement was an 11 piece band featuring (mostly) Marvin's work set to almost Funkadelic-type music. There has never been anything quite like it before, and probably never will be again. If you need just a preview, check out the song "Black Girl" in which a girl unexpectedly finds she has black blood in her heritage, and Marvin asks her how it feels to now like fried chicken instead of lasagna, how it feels to now shop at aldi instead of whole foods, etc. Sadly, the musicians have all gone their separate ways, but recently they did have a reunion show at the Hothouse to promote a cd recently released that features everyone's current projects.
