This is a special line-up as these four musicians (as far as I know) only played together three times and that was in Hamburg from April 11th to April 13th, 1978. The first concert was in the studio of the NDR (a radio station in Hamburg and that`s what we have here), the second -on the12th- was at a celebration of the "Deutscher Schallplattenpreis" (German record price) which was awarded in the jazz section to Ralph for "Solstice" and the third was at the famous club "Onkel Pö". I was lucky enough to have attended all three shows and the last -the club gig- was kind of unforgettable: Not only was it a great concert but after the show a lot of people including all the musicians stayed and after the doors had been closed some heavy partying started which lasted till 5 in the morning. It was big fun and all I can remember is that a friend and me were sitting at the bar with Nana drinking "Pinot" (a mixture of Cognac and applejuice I think) for hours talking about everything and getting real drunk. The other thing I remember rather clearly is Jan Garbarek standing in a corner, a bottle of applejuice pressed to his chest and his eyes wide open, who obviously couldn`t believe what was going on (but he didn`t leave early!). Anyway, hope you`ll like this show!
